Obituary for Freddy Korneta

Freddy Korneta, born on July 25, 1948, passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2025, at the age of 76.

Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Freddy carried with him the values of hard work, loyalty, and quiet strength throughout his life. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, he made the Coulee Region his home, drawn to the beauty of the river and the hills of the area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Bernice; grandmother, Irene Pincsak; brothers, Jerry (infant), Ed, and Bob; sister, Kay; and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marsha; his sons, Joe (Kelli) and Luke (Leigh) Korneta; his cherished grandchildren, Livia, Caden, and Evelyn Korneta; maternal aunt, Lavern Handschuh of Colorado; grand pups Lucy, Frankie, and Bonnie; sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Freddy found joy in the simple things—spending time on the river, taking peaceful drives through the countryside of western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota, and watching his Cubs, win or lose. Most of all, he loved being there for his family, especially cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. He was a steady, calming presence—always supportive, always present.

Freddy’s quiet warmth, devotion, and love for those closest to him will be remembered and missed deeply.

We would like to give a special thank you to the Gundersen Hospice Team for all of their help and support during this time.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., June 14, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4141 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Pastor Harald Bringsjord will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

A celebration of Freddy’s life will follow the memorial service at the Bluffside Tavern, 2712 Main St, La Crosse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Freddy.

Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may be offered on this website.
