
Obituary for Gwendolyn Mae Schaller
She was born November 3, 1935, in Caledonia, Minn., to William and Blanche (Schuldt) Schaller. Gwen was baptized into faith at Peace Church, Crooked Creek Twp., Houston County, Minn., and confirmed March 21, 1948. After graduating from Caledonia High School in May of 1953, Gwen worked at Grandview Hospital in La Crosse as a Nurse’s Aid. In 1959, she moved to Waterloo, Iowa where she worked at Allen Memorial Hospital as a Nurse’s Aid. In 1967, she took on the responsibilities of the print shop within the hospital until retiring in 1997. Gwen made her home in New Albin, Iowa, where she lived until her health declined. She then moved into the nursing home until her passing.
Gwen was a kind and caring person who made beautiful quilts and wall hangings. She enjoyed going to quilt shops to browse and buy more material. Survivors include three sisters, Jeanette Gran, Connie Ranzenberger, and Shirley Richards and her husband Tom; sister-in-law, Beverly Schaller; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jacquelyn Rask and Ila Schaller; brother, Robert Schaller; brothers-in-law, Donald Rask, David Ranzenberger, and Arlin Gran; nephew, Danny Gran; and niece, Kristi Kaiser.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Peace Church, Crooked Creek Township, Houston County, Minn. Pastor William Reese will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
